Termsheet cannot be issued, accepted, signed or reopened: its status has moved on, or it is already signed
The buyer's termsheet moves Draft, Issued, Accepted, Signed in order, and only an Issued or Accepted one can go back to Draft; when your screen is stale, or the termsheet is Signed or Cancelled, the action is refused with "Cannot <action> a <status> termsheet".
Messages this explains
- “Cannot issue a <status> termsheet”
- “Cannot accept a <status> termsheet”
- “Cannot sign a <status> termsheet”
- “Cannot reopen a <status> termsheet”
- “Termsheet reopened as Draft.”
Termsheet cannot be issued, accepted, signed or reopened: its status has moved on, or it is already signed
You clicked Issue, Mark accepted, Mark signed or Reopen on a booking's termsheet and the card answered "Cannot issue a <status> termsheet" (or "Cannot accept…", "Cannot sign…", "Cannot reopen…"), or the Reopen button is simply not there on a Signed termsheet. The termsheet is no longer in the status the action expects.
What you see
On the booking's Termsheet & schedule tab, an alert on the Termsheet card:
- "Cannot issue a <status> termsheet": only a Draft termsheet can be issued.
- "Cannot accept a <status> termsheet": only an Issued termsheet can be marked accepted.
- "Cannot sign a <status> termsheet": only an Issued or Accepted termsheet can be marked signed.
- "Cannot reopen a <status> termsheet": only an Issued or Accepted termsheet can go back to Draft.
Or the buttons themselves are missing: on a Signed termsheet the card shows only Regenerate schedule, and on a Cancelled one nothing at all.
Why it happens
The buyer's termsheet moves in one direction: Draft → Issued → Accepted → Signed (Mark signed also works straight from Issued). Each button is shown only in the status it applies to, so the message appears when the termsheet moved on while your page was open: a colleague issued, accepted or signed it, or the booking was cancelled, which cancels its termsheet too.
Reopen takes an Issued or Accepted termsheet back to Draft so the schedule can be changed and issued again. A Signed termsheet is the agreement the buyer has put their name to, so it stays as agreed and cannot be reopened; a Cancelled booking termsheet cannot be revived either. (Member offers on a project can be reopened from Cancelled, which is why the same message reads differently there.)
How to fix it
- Refresh the page and read the status badge on the Termsheet card. Follow the buttons the card now shows; anyone with the Edit permission on Bookings can do this.
- If the termsheet is Signed and the schedule needs to change, click Regenerate schedule instead of reopening: paid, partly paid, waived and hand-edited rows are kept and only the open remainder is rebuilt. See Re-date an installment or regenerate the schedule.
- If the deal itself has changed and the signed terms no longer stand, cancel the booking and book again: Cancel a booking.
- If the termsheet shows Cancelled, the booking was cancelled; see Booking is cancelled or its schedule rows are no longer Pending.

- Booking is cancelled or its schedule rows are no longer Pending: the change is refusedTroubleshooting
A cancelled booking accepts no edits, demands, receipts, commissions or reschedules, and on a live booking only Pending schedule rows can be re-dated; paid, partly paid, waived and cancelled rows stay as they are, and the payment plan of a booked estimate is changed by regenerating the termsheet, never by cancelling the plan.
- Offer cannot be cancelled, reopened, edited or deleted: money, demands, purchases or its status stand in the wayTroubleshooting
An offer with money recorded against it is in the books and is not cancelled from the offer; a live demand must be cancelled first; an allottee's purchase that has an estimate out or a booking must be cancelled before its unit comes off the offer; and each action is allowed only from the statuses it moves from, so a non-draft offer is reopened before it is edited.
