Choose a new password

The page the password reset email opens: choose a new password, which signs you out everywhere so you can sign in again with it.

Choose a new password

This page sets a new password for your account. You reach it from the link in the "Reset your password" email that Forgot your password? sends.

Where to find it

Click the link in the reset email. You don't need to be signed in.

Before you start

Ask for a reset link on Forgot your password?. The link works once, within one hour.

What you see

The heading "Choose a new password" and "You will be signed out everywhere and asked to sign in again."

Field What to enter Checks you may see
New password At least 8 characters with a letter and a digit. Required. "Use at least 8 characters", "Include at least one letter and one digit", "Password is too long (max 72 bytes)"
Confirm new password The same password again. Required. "Passwords do not match"

Below them is the Update password button.

If the address has no reset link in it at all, the page shows "This reset link is invalid" and "Reset links expire after one hour and can only be used once." with Request a new reset link.

What you can do

Update password

Saves the new password. Then:

  • every session of your account ends, on every device;
  • you are taken to Sign in, which shows "Password updated. Sign in with your new password."

If the link has expired, was already used, or is damaged, you see "This link is invalid, has expired or was already used." with Request a new reset link.

Opens Forgot your password? so you can ask for a fresh link.

Things to know

  • Why everyone is signed out. If someone else knew your old password and was signed in, resetting it throws them out as well.
  • A link works only once. After the password changes, the same link stops working, even within the hour.
  • Two-factor stays on. Resetting your password doesn't turn off two-factor authentication; you still need your code when you sign in. See Two-factor sign-in.
