Project performance

Revenue, cost of sales and margin per project for a period and to date, the booked price and how much of it is recognised, the cost budget against cost incurred and cost to complete, progress by stages and by cost, revenue by month, and the flags the CA needs to act on.

Project performance

This report reads the posted revenue runs by project: what each project earned in the period and to date, its cost of sales and margin, how much of the booked price is recognised, the cost budget against the cost incurred and the cost to complete, progress by construction stages and by cost, revenue month by month, and the flags the CA needs to act on.

Where to find it

In the sidebar, open Accounting > Revenue Recognition and choose the Project performance tab. The tab keeps the books you chose on the other tabs.

You need the View permission on Revenue Recognition; in the default roles every role has it except the Sales Executive, Site Engineer, Front Desk and Legal & Documentation. Without it the page reads "No access" and "You do not have permission to view revenue recognition. Ask your administrator." Choosing the books needs the View permission on Books.

Before you start

  • Projects whose promoter company owns these books. With none the page reads "No project of these books yet."
  • Posted revenue runs: revenue, cost of sales and margin all come from their lines.
  • A Budget Cost per project for the budget, cost-to-complete and cost-progress columns, and Construction stages with a share for stage progress.

What you see

The top card holds the dates and the description: "From the posted revenue runs: what each project earned in the period and to date, its margin, how much of the booked price is recognised, the cost budget against the cost incurred, progress by stages and by cost, and the flags the CA needs to act on."

  • From and To: by default the start of the fiscal year holding today, to today (kept within that year). The report refreshes as soon as both dates are set and From is not after To.

Three cards follow. Zero amounts show as "—".

Revenue and margin

The card title carries the policy in force on the To date: "Revenue and margin (<framework>, <method> from <date>)".

Column What it shows
Project The project, with the method it is recognised under underneath (the books' method, or the project's own override).
Revenue (period) Revenue from runs whose period end falls between From and To.
Cost of sales (period) Cost of sales from the same runs.
Margin (period) Revenue less cost of sales for the period.
Revenue to date Revenue recognised up to the latest posted run of each subject.
Cost to date Cost of sales to date.
Margin to date Revenue to date less cost to date.
Margin % Margin to date as a percentage of revenue to date, or "—".

A Total row appears when there is more than one project.

Booked, budget and progress

Column What it shows
Project The project.
Bookings The number of active bookings.
Booked price The total transaction price of the project's active bookings (the latest run line's price, or the booking's With the unit price before any run). Member offers are not included.
Recognised Revenue to date as a percentage of the booked price. Revenue to date includes member offers' lines while the booked price counts bookings only, so on a redevelopment project the figure can pass 100%.
Budget cost The project-wide budget in force on the To date, or No budget in amber.
Cost incurred The cost booked to the project up to the To date: the expense ledgers with an Inventory role (see Ledgers) plus what was posted straight to work-in-progress and land.
Cost to complete Budget less cost incurred, or "—" without a budget.
Stages Progress by construction stages: the share of the project-wide stages achieved (when no stage is project-wide, every stage with a share counts).
Cost Progress by cost: construction cost incurred against the construction budget, or "—" without a budget.
Flags The points for the CA (below), or "—".

The flags:

  • Red Expected loss: <booking no> (cost <amount> > <amount>) when a booking's cost share exceeds its price. The provision for the onerous contract is a manual journal.
  • Green Guidance Note thresholds met, or amber with the reason ("Guidance Note: cost incurred N% is below M%", "Guidance Note: area sold N% is below M%", "Guidance Note: a cost budget is needed to test the cost-incurred threshold"). Shown only under AS (Guidance Note 2012) when the project's method is over time.
  • Amber No budget cost when the project has no budget in force.

Revenue by month

One column per month in the range ("2026-04", "2026-05" …) with each project's revenue placed in the month of the run's period end.

What you can do

There are no actions on this report besides the From and To dates. Add or revise a budget on the project's Budget Cost card on the Settings tab; mark stages achieved under Construction stages; prepare and post runs under Revenue runs.

Things to know

  • Everything on the revenue side comes from posted runs. Revenue and cost of sales posted by manual journals, and anything a draft run would recognise, are not in these figures. Reconcile with the Profit and loss when the two must agree.
  • Revenue by month follows the period end. A quarterly run puts the whole quarter's revenue in the month it closes.
  • Stages progress is project-wide here, even when the policy measures progress per tower. A tower's own stage progress, which the run uses for that tower's units, can differ from this column.
  • Cost progress ignores the land toggle. The Cost column always measures construction cost against the construction budget, while a run under Count land and development rights in the cost measure counts land too.
  • Only the project-wide budget feeds this report. Tower budgets are used by the runs when progress is per tower, but the Budget cost, Cost to complete and Cost columns read the whole-project row.
  • The card title's policy is the one in force on the To date, which may not be the policy each run in the range used. Each project's own method (with any project override) is shown under its name.
  • There is no export on this report.

  • Revenue recognition: policy, point in time vs over time, and revenue runsConcept

Each set of books carries an effective-dated revenue policy (framework, method, possession trigger, cost and brokerage treatments, judgement areas) chosen by the CA; a revenue run is the period close that computes every booking's and member offer's progress under it, recognises the catch-up revenue, cost of sales and brokerage, and posts the journals.

  • Cost of sales, cost budgets and inventory transferConcept

Each revenue run moves the period's construction, rehab and borrowing cost from the expense ledgers into work-in-progress and land inventory, then charges every booking a share of the project's cost (its budget, else the cost inventoried so far) in step with its revenue progress, so revenue and its cost land in the same period.

  • Fiscal years, periods, locks, opening balances and the year-end closeConcept

Each set of books runs in fiscal years of twelve monthly periods; a voucher can post only into an open year and an unlocked period, opening balances carry each ledger's balance into a year, the year-end close moves income and expense into Profit & Loss Account by a closing journal and writes the next year's openings, and a monthly balance cache is kept as a cross-check.
