Link a society to a redevelopment project
On a redevelopment project, pick the existing housing society being redeveloped, or create it on the spot from the project's site address, so its members become the project's tenants.
Link a society to a redevelopment project
A redevelopment project rebuilds an existing housing society. Linking the society to the project brings its members onto the project's Society & Tenants tab, where each of them can be given an offer (term sheet). You can pick a society already recorded under Projects > Societies, or create it on the spot with the project's site address filled in.
Before you start
- The project's Project type is Redevelopment. The Society & Tenants tab and the wizard's Society step exist only on redevelopment projects; check the type on Edit project.
- Permissions, in the role editor's words: the Edit permission on Projects to link, change or unlink (in the default roles the Administrator, Project Manager and Compliance Officer); any permission on Societies to see the tab and the View permission on Societies to see the linked society's details; the Create permission on Societies to create one from here (Administrator, Project Manager and Rehab Officer).
Steps
- Open the project from Projects and choose the Society & Tenants tab (see Society & Tenants); the Go link on Society in the overview's Setup checklist opens the same tab. The same card is the Society step of the Project setup wizard. The card is titled "Link the society": "The existing housing society being redeveloped. Its members become the project's tenants.", with a search box "Search societies by name, city or registration no.".
- Type part of the society's name, city or registration number. Each match reads "<city> · <n> members"; with no match the list says "No society matches". Pick the society. It is linked at once: you see “Society "<name>" linked.” and the card becomes Society, "Linked to this project.", showing Name (a link to the society's page), Registration no., City, Members recorded and Address, with the buttons Edit society, Change and Unlink.
- If the society isn't recorded yet, click Create a new society at the foot of the list. The New society form opens with the project's site address, state, city and PIN code already filled in. Fill Society name (2 to 150 characters), Registration no. ("Optional") and Total members ("Optional", the size of the roll), check the Address, State, City and PIN code, and click Create society. You see “Society "<name>" created.” and “Society "<name>" linked.”: the new society is linked to the project straight away. See Societies for the society form.
- In the setup wizard, click Continue (it is greyed out until a society is linked, with the note "Link a society to continue, or skip for now."; Skip this step leaves it for later). The wizard moves to Existing members, with the card "Members of <society>" listing the members already recorded for that society, if any.
What happens next
- The Members card appears on the Society & Tenants tab, and the society's page under Projects > Societies shows a badge for this project. Members recorded on either page are the same list.
- The wizard's Society step is done, and Existing members and Offers can now take the society's members. Enter them with Enter society members (by hand, quick add or Excel import), then draft each member's offer.
- Landowners and PAP tenants belong to the project, not the society, and can be recorded whether or not a society is linked: see Record landowners and PAP tenants.
- Change shows the search again (titled "Change society") to link a different society; Unlink removes the link at once, with no confirmation, and shows "Society unlinked." The society and its members are kept, but check the offers card first: unlinking doesn't check for offers already made to the society's members.
- Edit society opens the society form to correct its details; it needs the Edit permission on Societies.
If something goes wrong
- The project has no Society & Tenants tab and the wizard has no Society step: the project is a New development, or you hold no permission on Societies. Change the Project type on Edit project or ask for the permission. See Society & Tenants tab not shown.
- The card reads "No society linked" and "Linking a society needs the Projects update permission.": you can see the tab but hold no Edit permission on Projects. See No access or no permission.
- "A society with this name already exists." on Society name when creating: the society is already recorded; close the form and pick it from the search instead. See Society name already used.
- "Use at least 2 characters", "Address is required", "State is required", "City is required" or "PIN code is required" on the society form: fill the field.
- Create a new society doesn't appear at the foot of the list: you lack the Create permission on Societies. Ask someone who holds it to record the society under Projects > Societies first.

- Project type and property typeConcept
The project type (New Development or Redevelopment) decides whether the project has a society, members and offers; the property type (Residential, Commercial or Mixed) decides which unit types its towers, configurations and pricing plans may use.
- Society & Tenants tab or the Society, Existing members and Offers steps are missing: not a redevelopment project, or no permissionTroubleshooting
The Society & Tenants tab, the wizard's Society, Existing members and Offers steps, or the Landowners & PAP tenants card only appear on a Redevelopment project and for roles with a permission on Societies, Tenants or Termsheets; change the project type or ask for the permission.
- "No access" or "You do not have permission": your role lacks a permissionTroubleshooting
Every screen, button and picker is gated by a permission on a module; your role decides which you hold, so a missing one shows as a No access card, a refused action, a greyed-out button with a hover reason, or a picker that explains which permission it needs.
- "Already exists" or "listed twice": the name, code, number or line must be uniqueTroubleshooting
Names, codes and numbers are unique within their scope (the organization, a project, a tower, a set of books) so that records can be told apart, and a line can appear once on a plan, offer or account; rename, reuse the existing record, or remove the duplicate line.
