Edit opportunity
Change an opportunity's lead source, owner, channel partner or requirements; the project and the buyer stay fixed, and only the fields you touch are saved.
Edit opportunity
Use this page to keep an enquiry up to date as the conversation goes: a new budget, a preferred tower, a different owner, the broker who referred the buyer.
Where to find it
Click Edit in the header of an opportunity, or the pencil icon on a row of the Opportunities list. The breadcrumbs read Opportunities > <buyer> > Edit and the title is "Edit <buyer>".
Opening the page needs the View permission on Opportunities; saving needs the Edit permission on Opportunities. Without the latter the page reads "You can view this opportunity but not change it.", every field is greyed out and there is only a Back link.
What you see
The header reads "Change the source, owner or requirements; only the fields you touch are saved."
- Contact section: "The project and person are fixed once the opportunity exists; change their details from Contacts." The buyer is shown read-only.
- Source & owner and Requirements: the same fields as on New opportunity, pre-filled with the current values: Lead source, Assigned to, Channel partner and Partner's contact person; Preferred unit type, Preferred tower, Budget from / Budget up to, Carpet area (Mofa) from / up to, Floor from / Floor up to, Parking slots needed, Facing preference, Expected close and Notes. The same validation applies ("Must be at least the minimum budget", "Must be at least the minimum area", "Must be at least the lowest floor", "Whole numbers only", "Must be at most 20").
On a Booked or Lost opportunity the header reads "This opportunity is booked; its details are read-only." or "This opportunity is lost; its details are read-only.", every field is greyed out and there is no save button.
What you can do
Save changes
Saves only the fields you changed, shows the toast "Opportunity updated." and returns to the opportunity.
- Who: anyone with the Edit permission on Opportunities.
- When it is greyed out: until you change something.
- Errors you may see: "That tower does not belong to this project." and "assigned_to must be an active user of this organization".
Create partner / Attach
As on New opportunity: register a new channel partner from the search box (the Create permission on Companies plus the View permission on Lookups) or attach a person to the chosen partner (the Edit permission on Companies).
Cancel / Back
Returns to the opportunity without saving. The link reads Cancel when you can edit and Back when the page is read-only.
Things to know
- Project and buyer never change. They identify the enquiry; every estimate, activity and hold hangs off that pair. For a different project or person, create a new opportunity. To correct the buyer's phone or email, edit the contact under Contacts.
- Closed opportunities are read-only so that the record behind a booking or a lost deal stays as it was decided.
- Allottee purchases have no Edit button. Their buyer is the allottee and they carry no lead source or channel partner. If you reach the page by its address anyway, changing those fields is refused with "An allottee purchase keeps the allottee as buyer and has no lead source or channel partner (…)".
- Only touched fields are saved, so two people editing different fields at the same time do not overwrite each other's changes.
